Antique Round French Angel Pendant

This little iconic putto, forever bored with these humans and this physical planet, is from Raphael’s Sistine Madonna. I had to revisit this painting to take a closer look. Pictured is Madonna holding Christ Child, Saint Sixtus and Saint Barbara on either side of her, and behind them dozens of ghostly putti and below the two iconic winged babes, watching on. It’s said they are wistfully looking to the heavens, indeed bored of this place.

This delightful Belle Époque interpretation of one of the iconic figures – in the warm glow of 20 karat gold, was exquisitely crafted in the delicate artistry of repoussé. This ethereal piece weighs a mere 3.8 grams and measures 28.3 x 20.2 x 1.3 millimeters. Its surface is adorned with intricate details that evoke the divine presence of a putto, masterfully sculpted in relief.
