Vintage Diamond Art Nouveau Cluster Ring, 18k Gold

$ 3,880.00

     Old cut diamonds can be dangerous. The more of them you see, the more of them you desire to own! Whereas modern brilliant cut diamonds can be nice and sparkly, old European cuts like these are more like individual works of art. Hand cut by master craftsmen who spent decades learning their craft; these cutters used no computers, no lasers, they used their eyes, their experience and their hands, often cutting with tools they had made themselves. The result is a diamond with a uniqueness of character that simply cannot be found in today's modern cut stones. This European ring showcases a cushion cut diamond center with large cut facets that cause it to flash with slow and stunning sparks of colorful fire surrounded by a halo of fascinating old cut diamonds. A stone that was made to be worn by candlelight, but looks fantastic in any light.

     This ring is handcrafted in 18 karat yellow gold, the center is a somewhat oval Old European cut with a large culet that weighs about .5 carats. Surrounding the center stone are ten completely unique and very old cut stones, these vary from mazarin cut to cushion cut to what almost looks to be a double rose cut, they were difficult to measure due to the unique cuts, but they add up to about an additional .5 carats for a total diamond weight in this ring of about 1 carat. The color and clarity of these stones does vary greatly, the center stone is very clean, it may draw some color, but due to the yellow gold mourning, it’s tough to get a grading on it. This ring is hallmarked for having been made in Birmingham, England, in 1923.

     I suspect that this ring was made from a collection of inherited diamonds as the ten surrounding diamonds predate the ring by many decades, and the center stone was likely cut before 1880. The result is a gorgeous ring with a rich diamond history! The ring is a size 5.75, it could be resized a bit in either direction, the face measures 10.2 mm from north to south and narrows to 1.8 mm at the back of the band. The shank has lost some of its detail from years of being loved and worn, but still retains strong, beautiful, Art Nouveau lines. This ring weighs 4.8 grams.

     As an engagement ring, I think this ring would make any girl swoon. A very, very lovely and romantic specimen of a ring. Don't worry, it's okay if you don't want it, I'll be happy to hang out with this one for awhile!
